Russian forest monsters

Two of my characters, Anushka and Viktor, with a classmate's character (the sick girl). We had to create 'em off random words. I got fuzzy, Russian, and abstract and used them as an excuse to draw furry monster things. Viktor's inspired by the mythical Slavic chuhaister, a forest giant (apparently they're super awful-looking but sweet to humans and help fight off evil faeries).

Anushka's wearing fur boots. She doesn't have giant tarantula feet.

I was told it looked like that, but it's boots.

I had to re-interpret a classic mythological theme in an erotic context. I forgot that cool cats don't wear cowboy boots over their jeans. I also forgot how to draw cowboy boots.

People in charge said the poem was too hard to read 'cause of the branch,

so I fixed it. Something about that clearly segregated composition makes my

skin crawl, but it's for the children, so...

And somehow the highlight on the bluejay's beak disappeared, so now that shade of light orange is only on the girl's hairties. I spent four hours discussing, adjusting, and

repackaging it so oh well. It bothers me, but it's not important.

Full-page for my Lifestyle/Fashion Illustration class. All of the shirts and coats are designer items but it's not super apparent. The point was to create a piece that illustrated the mood of the film without portraying actors or specific characters. I got Jonah Hex, so I basically just tried to focus on Confederate zombies and cowboy stuff. And I threw a sassy redhead in there.

This is kind of like the way I used to draw in highschool, lots of linear detail, especially with hair. Pretty much the way I draw naturally. Probably should've gone the cartoony route.

Acrylic, tiny. The original colors ranged from lime, teal, to aqua. My scanner decided that meant blue. Tried to fix it in Photoshop but the colors aren't too off, and the blue's sort of neat against the green flames. I was inspired by a painting of two women staring each other down, by Glenn Barr. Too bad I couldn't find it online or else I'd post it here. I got one of his art books recently, trying to decide how to use paint nowadays. His work is pretty amazing and inspiring.

Circus-themed graphic homage to Annie Sprinkle. I have banner drawn up that I'll stick below and above the main illustration, saying "Annie Sprinkle's" / "Circus of Carnal Delights" or something of that nature. I'm thinking light reds/oranges/purple/blue/pink... Started with the colors but not done yet. It's supposed to be a poster... mmhm...

I like this. I exaggerated her likeness, but I think it still carries. I missed drawing hair all fancy-like.

Savage (undead) Love

Had to pick a Savage Love letter and do a spot piece for it. I chose one about this cat who's allegedly got a thing for girls pretending to be dead, but is super grossed out by the thought of a REAL dead lady. He ends up paying some chick in a dungeon to realize his fantasy, but surprisingly he's unaroused by the situation. Maybe some fantasies are better off kept in the imagination? Dunno.

Anyway, ink on crappy paper. I planned to use at least two colors but I fell in love with just the orange. Yay Halloween.

The colors are a HELLUVA lot brighter, neon-ish pink and bright greens and yellows. It's uploading like shit.

Anyway, illustration for a review of Thomas Pynchon's new crime-nior novel Inherent Vice. It's set in 1970, CA, and revolves around Doc, this stoner P.I. cat. Kind of like Fear and Loathing but less interesting. I haven't read it, but this is what I'm assuming. The 70s are the epitome of gross and suck.

I need to stop ripping off Derek Yaniger. I love his style so much. I'm sorry, Derek!

Acrylic, still need clear coat over them or they're going to get scratched up sooner or later. My man wanted nifty bats over the f-holes on his upright bass, so I done did them. They're a little funky, but he likes 'em. His spider webs need some touch-ups again too, darn paint's scratched off in a few little places.
